Now, apply for IGNOU's urban planning course




NASHIK: The Nashik centre of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a post graduate diploma in urban planning and development (PGDUPDL) from this year. The admission process for the course will begin from Tuesday.

The course, already available at its Delhi centre, is an innovative programme aimed at promoting professional development and capacity building in the area of urban planning and development.

An official at the centre said the course has been introduced at the Nashik centre due to its increased demand. "A proposal was sent from the Nashik centre to the regional office located in Pune, which then forwarded it to the main centre at Delhi for approval. The process has been completed and application forms for students would be made available from Tuesday. Admissions will continue till the end of this month," the official said.

A round of admissions has already been conducted for the course and seven students have even been selected. IGNOU offers around 300 courses from various disciplines out of which around 25 are held in Nashik. "A counsellor is also provided to students seeking clearance of doubts and other problems related to academics," the official informed.

The objectives of the course are to provide opportunity to students and update their knowledge and understanding of urban development, expand the capacities of the working urban development stakeholders on various academic aspects and provide professional knowledge and necessary skill set in formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

The course focuses on issues and solutions on aspects like transportation, unemployment, poverty, and unauthorized housing colonies and slums.

The course will be useful for people involved in urban development programmes and also for graduates who wish to pursue urban development as a career. The postgraduate diploma holders will be fully equipped to serve various government and non-government organizations dealing with the subject.
